Just popping in today with a post about my newest crochet project, the Persian Tiles Blanket. This pattern is by Jane Crowfoot and is available on Ravelry.
I have seen this pattern a few times in the last few years but it recently seemed to explode on TikTok. I kept seeing people post their projects and I would think, “Wow, that looks like so much work.” I swore I’d never make one, because the thought of weaving in all those ends turned me off. I also really didn’t like just how many colors were used in it. But I also couldn’t stop thinking about trying a to tackle a project that big.
A few days ago, I was showing it to my husband and telling him there’s no way I will make it. But I keep seeing it. But I know I’ll hate weaving in those ends. He said to me “You know you’re going to make it anyway.” He was right. That very afternoon I ordered some yarn to make it.
I knew I wanted to make mine with less colors than the pattern calls for. I also wanted to try to use at least SOME of my stashed yarn. So I settled on making mine with Lion Brand’s Pound of Love. I already had Antique White and Elephant Gray in my stash, which were the colors I had chosen for the borders/joins of the tiles. So I ordered Waterfall, Cascade, Pastel Green and Thistle for store pickup and grabbed them while we were out to dinner. As soon as I got home, I got started and made up enough rounds of one tile to see the colors together (except for the gray which I haven’t gotten to yet).
I’m working the rest of the tiles a round at a time and weaving in the ends as soon as I finish the round. Doing it this way makes the end weaving process seem less daunting than trying to finish the whole tile or blanket and doing it at the end. Here is my progress after two days:

I’ve got rounds 1-3 done for all 16 tiles, and round 4 done for 5 of them. Plus there is the one tile that has round 5 done. I’m storing them on my Olikraft granny square blocking board, which is so helpful.
This pattern does call for DK weight yarn, and I am using worsted weight, so I have sized up my hooks a full mm for each size the pattern calls for.
Now, just in case you’re reading this and wondering about my other WIPs I had posted about, don’t worry. I am also working on my Log Cabin Shawl at the moment. I’m hoping to finish that up and add some sleeve holes and a neck border, turning it into more of a shrug style wearable. I recently also made this Octagon short sleeved cardigan. This uses a pattern by Dramacrochet Annie on YouTube. I did opt to turn my work after each row, and I added a crab stitch border all the way around. I made mine with Lion Brand Ice Cream yarn in the colorway Blue Moon. My skein was a Big Scoop, but I don’t think they sell it in that size anymore.

Well, I’m off to work on those Persian Tiles! I’ll keep you updated on my progress or let you know when it is all finished.
